A'reet there?

Neil

I'm Neil, the sub-genius behind Rude Corps.

For those who have no idea what Rude Corps is all about and who have accidentally stumbled across this site while looking for soft porn / necrophiliac sites, here's what's what...

What's this Rude Corps shit all about?

In a nutshell, it's my music. It's not my personal name: I don't call myself Rude Corps. It's just the music.

What does it sound like?

Errrrrrr.... It's not very easy to describe because stylistically, it's all over the place. I don't stick to any genre, but go wandering where my fancy takes me. The core sound, I suppose, is breakbeat, but I regularly do most kinds of electronica, as well as hip-hop, punk and indie rock and have been known to try my hand at folk, reggae, classical and even swing jazz.

Some tracks are political, some are personal but most are just for the fun of it.

Where does the name come from?

Originally it jumped out at me from a health & safety themed wordsearch: procedure printed backwards = erudecorp. It stuck in my head for many months and having played around with a number of variations (Erudite Corp., Rude Corpse, etc) I settled on Rude Corps as it seemed the most apt. Firstly, "rude" is meant in the semi-archaic sense of being rough, crude, unrefined rather than merely obscene. "Corps" is of course a military unit. Put them together and you have a sort of rag-tag peasant army. Secondly, to me at least there is an association with various revolutionary groups like the Durruti Column (not the band) and the Angry Brigade. It is, in short, an expression of working class militancy: a tribute of sorts to the Sans Cullottes, the CNT-FAI, the Levellers, the Spartakus League, the Makhnovistas, Zapatistas, Red Army Faction and every uppity pleb who ever lived.
